Department of Urbanism in Macedonia contracts with KUD Kardeşlik
Helping minority families of Turkish and Roma descent in the district got a big boost when Department of Urbanism in Macedonia contracted with KUD Kardeşlik to complete forms and prepare statements qualifying residents to legally live on the property where they have constructed homes. Prior to this effort, land which was not distributed after independence from Yugoslavia, was settled by poor undocumented families who lived in Yugoslavia.
Recently this hilly, rocky land, on which these families built homes, but had no proof of ownership, has become attractive to Macedonian ex-pats wanting summer homes when they return from their residences in Germany and other EU countries. Helping these ethnic Turkish and Roma become citizens is crucial to improving life for their families, including several children who are receiving the scholarships that we support.
